From Canada: Marie Powell

Marie Powell’s castle-hopping adventures across North Wales resulted in her award-winning medieval fantasy series, Last of the Gifted: Spirit Sight and Water Sight, set in 13th C Wales. She is also the author of 40+ children’s books with such publishers as Scholastic Education and Amicus. Her travel experiences inform her novels, as well as her short stories and poetry appearing in such literary magazines as Room, subTerrain, and Sunlight Press. She recently served (twice) as a Sage Hill Teen Writing Experience instructor, and as editor for the Opening Doors anthology of writing by newcomers to Canada. As well, she has been a mentor and Virtual Writer-in-Residence for the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild. She holds a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia, among other degrees. Marie lives on Treaty 4 territory in Regina, Saskatchewan, where she experiments in gardening, medieval cooking, and cat whispering.

From Germany and the USA: Ann Marie Ackermann

Ann Marie Ackermann is a former American attorney who relocated to Germany after marrying a German. When she discovered that the mayor of her German town had been murdered in 1835 and that the crime was solved in Washington, DC in 1872, she used legal and language skills to research the case on both sides of the ocean. The resulting books, Death of an Assassin (Kent State Univ. Press) and Tod eines Mörders (Silberburg Verlag) won awards in the US and Germany. She also has a number of publications with German magazines and newspapers. Ann Marie enjoys bird watching, learning languages (she is fluent in German and is also learning Czech), cooking, and culture.

Ann Marie and Marie met each other in a medieval cooking class in Newcastle upon Tyne in England and like to explore new places and cultures together.
