Lots of interesting information in this post. I learned a lot about German Christmas traditions. I read there is also a German Christmas pickle? I'm not sure how true it is but read it on Reddit!
There is a tradition about putting a green pickle ornament in the tree, and the first child that finds it gets a small gift. But it's not universal in Germany and in fact, after living in Germany for almost 30 years, the only place I've encountered that tradition was in the United States! So I didn't include it in my list of traditions.
Thanks for the mention and I'm honored to be on your list of favs (next to Rona Maynard, I'm so flattered). I've enjoyed these first three months. More to enjoy in 2025!
I've always thought Germany had great Christmas traditions. France has developed a more German/American approach to Christmas with more markets outside of Alsace and more decorations. Of course there is a commercial side to it but overall, I find the season much jollier now than it was in the 90s.
I think we might go German this year and put up our tree on the 24th because we are so behind!
And thank you so much for the mention! I'm looking forward to 2025 and sharing more places. For the moment, I'm taking a little break for the holidays, however.
Do the French usually put their trees up earlier? Well, they say that the Christmas tree originated in Germany, so you can't go wrong by following the German tradition.

That’s very funny! Maybe it depends on the region in Germany?
I suspect it does.

Thank you, Jill! I wish you a Joyeux Noël, Veselé Vánoce, Frohe Weihnachten, and Feliz Navidad. Oh yes, and God Jul as well!

Joyeux noël!
There is no set tradition but yes, we put them up before the 24th.
